The Silent Way
Caleb Gattegno thought that the best way for students to learn was to make them do it themselves. His method The Silent Way was instrumental in teaching good pronunciation by
using the Phonemic Chart. The teacher builds up the phonemes, by pointing at them and the students learn to create words. This way the students learn to create language, and are not dependent on the teacher as a language model. He believed that teaching should be subordinated to learning. |
