The purpose of this material is to prepare you for the college-based part of your training, which is extremely intensive. The course will be demanding of your time, stamina and emotional energy. The more information you are familiar with at the start of the course, the easier you will find the input sessions.
The material is divided into 3 sections.
Perhaps swapping between the sections will help, as a diet of only one section could be rather dry.
There will be tutor marked assignments at various points. These will be read by the external moderator and should reflect care and attention to presentation, spelling and the grammatical norms of English.
Do not hesitate to contact me if you need help. People who have not done formal study for some years will benefit from the support and reassurance that they are on the right track.
The books which it is recommended you buy as reference material are as follows:
1. Trinity CertTESOL companion by Jason Anderson
2. A Concise Grammar for English Language Teachers by T Penston
4. An introduction to the Phonology of English for ESOL Teachers by Parker and Grahame
If you only buy 1 of these, relying on Google for your grammar and phonology information, I would suggest that you get the Jason Anderson one, as it will help you prepare, work during the course, and be a good bible for use afterwards when you are teaching.
