NESTS and NNESTS
Many of our applicants are based in the Channel Islands, or have some connection to Jersey. However, we often find trainees on the course from other parts of Europe, or even further afield. There has been a great deal of debate about the role of Course Providers when it comes to the difference between these groups, although, these days, there should be no difference whatsoever.
NESTS, or Native English Speaking Teachers, have in the past, been the preferred employees of language schools, who have often marketed their courses by offering such teachers.
This has meant discrimination against NNESTS, or Non-Native Speakers, many of whom are better able to aid learners, from having had to master the language themselves.
As a college, we do not believe that anyone should be offered a position based on their place of birth, or passport, but that the decision should rest wholly on their ability in the classroom.
To this end, we are happy to offer employment to our NNESTS on the course, or to help them find other suitable positions at the end.
If you are interested in finding out more about the issue, look up the teflequityadvocates blog to see what is being done in this area to combat discrimination.
