Time, though, IS NOT Tense. There are 13 tenses in English, as we divide up the understanding of why we use each tense to describe different aspects. Don't forget that there are different aspects to consider when we think about time. Sometimes we are interested in the factual element and sometimes we are interested in the repetitive action involved. Each tense can give us a variety of informative data when used. The tenses do not necessarily equate to a particular time, so don't confuse Tenses with Time. Look at the following and identify the difference between the simple and continuous aspects of the tenses. |
